Academy Specialisms

serlby15Business & Enterprise

We prepare our pupils from an early age for the challenges they may face in the working world. We prime them for success in the 21st century by equipping them with essential skills taught through Business and Enterprise. As a specialist centre we provide a broad curriculum that consists of both vocational and academic subjects.  These are taught across KS4 & KS5 in specialist subjects such as Business Studies and purpose built mechanical, electrical and plumbing workshops, providing introductory, industry standard level 2 courses.  Enterprise workshops across the key stages develop a culture of enterprise, giving students access to business speakers and an opportunity to experience the business world in its own environment.

Modern Foreign Languages

We have a strong record of success in foreign languages and are proud of our students’ academic achievements in French, German and Spanish. As a winner of the prestigious International School Award, we foster greater cultural understanding through internationalising our curriculum and integrating international learning with our other area of specialism Business and Enterprise. The ability to communicate in other languages is a valuable skill in today’s global community. We provide the opportunity for pupils to experience other cultures through our international links with Europe, Brazil and Africa supporting their academic, social and personal potential.

Information and Communications Technology (ICT)

The ICT Department at Serlby Park are always looking at innovative ways to use the latest technologies to improve opportunities which benefit students.

At the Academy we offer a fantastic range of practical and theoretical IT courses to meet the needs of our students. These range from the development of current abilities, to using and controlling Raspberry Pi, creating games using specialist programming software, creating and building websites and computers and all the theory behind these. The qualifications that can be gained are; BTEC Information and Creative Technology, GCSE Information Communication Technology and Level 3 BTEC diploma in Information Technology, which helps build and embed IT skills from GCSE level to those which enable students to go on to study IT at degree level.

Due to our successful pass rate of 100%, students are able to go on to further education and can choose to study a range of different specialist areas at College or University. For example, computer science and Information Management, this includes software development, Artificial Intelligence development and Information Technology Management. Choosing these courses can aid students to move into careers that heavily use IT in every aspect.

With the new build fast approaching we will be having 5 brand new state of the art IT rich suites which will allow the continual development and growth of our student’s needs. With this in mind all students will have access to the latest technologies, including laptops and tablets; we aim to have a laptop or tablet for every student.
