Introduction

Welcome to the English department!

As a department we endeavour to set work that is appropriate to the needs of all pupils, stretching and supporting all abilities.

In Key stage 3 we devise our own schemes of work in -house, and tailor our lesson plans and resources to match the needs of the pupils to prepare them for the demands of GCSE.

At Key stage 4 we follow the WJEC board’s syllabus for GCSE English Language and English Literature. These two courses provide challenge and re-inforce key skills that are taught lower down in the school.

Currently we offer at KS5 A-Level English Language, AQA Specification B.

We also offer re-sit opportunities for students in Year 12 or 13 who wish to gain a C grade in GCSE English and missed out at Key stage 4.

We believe in the English department that the teaching of English is vital. It is the tool that enables people to make their way through life successfully. We aim to produce enthusiastic readers, expressive writers and confident speakers!

We set valuable and supportive homework weekly, and give students a clear focus for it every week.
